In Memory

Sandra Moore (Giglio) - Class Of 1961

Sandra A. Giglio, a kind, loving and compassionate person, spouse and mother passed unexpectedly at the age of 79 on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Jackson, MS while on vacation.

Sandy was born to Roy and Lucille Moore on November 14, 1943, in Erie, PA, the youngest of three children. Her dad was an FBI Agent of prominence in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and rose to the level of Special Agent in Charge of several field offices resulting in numerous family moves. During her formative years, Sandy moved with the family numerous times, never staying in one place for more than two-three years. She eventually attended J. E. B. Stuart High School, Falls Church, VA graduating in 1961.

After graduating high school Sandy joined her sister at Northwestern State College, Natchitoches, LA in the fall of 1961 where she met her love and future husband Joe. They married in Shreveport, LA on June 6, 1964, and raised four children. She was truly a most loving and dedicated mother who successfully traversed the tasks of raising her children. While at Northwestern State College, Sandy was elected queen of the Tau Kapa Epsilon Fraternity. She graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Joe and Sandy remained married for 59 years.

During her lifetime, Sandy worked at the NASA test facility near Picayune, MS, UNISYS and a law firm in Slidell, LA, Executive Secretary for a large corporation in Tysons Corner, VA, and as an analyst in the Office of Budget and Management for the Air Force at the Pentagon near Washington, DC. Following her career in the business world, Sandy found her calling joining the Legion of Mary at Nativity Church in Burke, VA. True to form, Sandy was elected to the Presidency of her group and served several terms before moving to auxiliary status in a supporting role. During her work with the Legion, she regularly took the Pilgrim Virgin Mary statue to families joining them in praying the rosary showing her compassion for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to include those confined to nursing homes. As a sign of her faith, Sandy attended daily Mass and prayed the rosary with Joe.

On the morning of July 31, 2023, God called Sandy to join him, an offer she could not refuse. She is survived by her spouse Joseph F. Giglio, Burke, VA and four children, Mark J. Giglio, League City, TX, Deborah A. Giglio-Willoughby, Carmichael, CA, Brian C. Giglio, Denver, CO, Joseph F. Giglio Jr, Burke, VA, and two grandchildren Sophia Giglio and Ashton Willoughby.
