Kevin W. Bell

As of 10/8/2018, Kevin's In Memory information was updated and is now correct.

I knew Kevin Bell for almost 50 years and was with him when he passed away. I first met Kevin in Sleepy Hollow elementary school in the 1960s in the 2nd grade, and we were in some of the same classes for the next 11 years, through intermediate school and through graduation at J.E.B Stuart high school, class of 1976. After graduation Kevin and I continued to keep in touch, he lived his whole life in the Fairfax County area of Virginia. Kevin was one of the kindest people you would ever know and liked everyone he met, I was proud to call Kevin my friend. Among his many passions, including a love of all things Disney and the Peanuts comics, starting in high school Kevin maintained a life long interest in hovercrafts. He constructed and built several over the years and was a member of the Hoverclub of America for many years. Kevin had some tougher challenges than most in life due to some physical disabilities and a speech impediment. But through it all Kevin always remained upbeat and happy. He worked hard after graduation in the private security business until a health issue caused him to retire early. He moved back to the family home in 2013 to help care for his aging parents. When his parents moved to assisted living in 2015 Kevin moved to the Tysons Corner area, and lived there the rest of his life. Kevin passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2018 from complications due to the flu, he was 59. Kevin Wayne Bell was born May 23rd, 1958 and was survived by his sister Sharon Vetter and his mother, Lois Bell. A memorial service for Kevin was held March 21, 2018.

Brian, that was a great tribute from a true friend--and extra special coming from you, and stretching all the way back to those days in Mrs. Rutherford's class!

I only just found out Kevin had passed away. Brian apparently knew him better than I which was mainly through a couple classes we had together. He could be quite the character. His theatrical and spirited rendition of 'Greased Lightning' entertained us in Mrs. Uphoff's geometry class one afternoon when she had need to leave the room and popular demand brought about an encore later in the semester when she stepped out again.  I did run into him one day after we'd graduated and he showed me a hovercraft he was constructing in his garage. Brian's recollections are spot-on; an enthusiatic fellow that seemed to thoroughly enjoy being alive.
