On that night our main gymnasium will be ceremoniously dedicated to retired girls’ basketball coach Ronald Wilson.  Between the varsity girls’ and boys’ games against Wakefield High School, Mr. Brian Garvey, Director of Student Activities will lead the unveiling of the banners that will forever mark the contributions that Coach Wilson has made to our athletes and our school.  It is our hope that the gym will be packed with Ron Wilson supporters.

Last spring the FCPS school board approved the resolution to have the gymnasium named in Ron Wilson’s honor.  Below are some of the highlights of his career.

  • Coach Ronald Wilson dedicated his entire teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools to the students at J.E.B. Stuart High School and retired after 37 years of instructing in both the physical education and special education departments

  • He dedicated himself to coaching three sports seasons in the sports of cross country, basketball and spring track, for 35 years of his career at J.E.B. Stuart High School, leading, mentoring and inspiring countless numbers of young men and women to strive for athletic excellence while maintaining their academic integrity

  • He coached 37 years in the girls’ basketball program and for 27 of those years he was the varsity head coach in charge of all aspects of the program; he was reliable, responsible and compassionate and always a positive role model for his players, staff, school and community

  • He coached the 1986-87 girls’ varsity basketball team to the Potomac District, Northern Region and Virginia State Championship titles
