Tom was my best friend. I was best man at his wedding. My son is named after him. Tom's son, Kevin, is a professor at Boston College. My son teaches in Bogota, Colombia and stays in touch with Kevin.

The thing about Tom was he always took the time to inquire what was going on with you and what you thought about whatever events were taking place on that particular day. He was unusual in that way. I read the accident summary about his death and apparently his flight was on a cross country, he had just refueled and, while getting airborne and transitioning from a hover to forward flight, something caused his aircraft to lose control and crash. I doubt the actual cause was ever determined. Regardless, it was a real tragedy. I'm relieved to hear he has a son who's doing well.
