Kristie Ann DePrete, 35, a Bedford, Mass., resident who was a Northern Virginia native and a 1979 graduate of Stuart High School in Falls Church, died Jan. 17 at a hospital in Springfield, Mass., as a result of injuries she had received in a traffic accident earlier that day.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police said that her car skidded on a patch of ice in Cummington, Mass., and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
Miss DePrete was a 1983 mechanical engineering graduate of the University of Virginia, and she did graduate work in design engineering at Tufts University.
She had lived in Massachusetts since college. After working for the Charles Stark Draper lab in Cambridge, Mass., where she worked on heat transfer and microencapsulation designs, she joined the Bay State Skills Corp. in 1991. There, she worked on the development of applying new or more-efficient technologies to small and medium-sized businesses.
