Motivational Story "Never Give Up On Your Goals"
I was enrolled in IB Biology I in my Junior Year of 2004-2005. The class was a struggle for me. I was barely able to keep passing grades. My teacher Ms. Singer at the time was not the best motivational guidance. Multiple times in very condescending and arrogant ways, she would tell me that I was not born to understand science and that I would fail if I ever pursued anything science related. I told her that my father is a hard working physician as a pediatrician and that it is my dream to become a pediatrician like him and work side by side in the future. She snickered at this dream in a very disrespectful way and doubted the fruition. Due to this I decided to drop from this class 3/4 of the way through the year. No teacher should ever do this to a student. I was so distraught and lost in my path to medicine. My father encouraged me to try my best and move forward. Thanks to the support of my family I rose up and pursued my dream. From 2006-2010, I attended 4 years of college at the Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating as a Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science with a Biology Major and Chemistry Minor. From 2010-2011 attended a one year masters program at combined program Georgetown University and George Mason University in Advanced Biomedical Sciences graduating Cum Laude and receiving my acceptance into Medical School. For the next 4 years from 2011-2015, I studied countless hours and passed all my classes and clinical rotations at the top 20% of my medical school class. I was matched into my #1 choice for Pediatric Residency at INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital. I am now home after 9 years in Falls Church, VA at the end of my first year as a physician.
Confucius once said, "Our Greatest Glory Is Not in Never Falling, But in Rising Every Time We Fall"
This is the story of my journey from JEB Stuart High School. I have overcome such academic obstacles and I speak for those who struggle in their early education and my message is that you should never give up on your dreams until you know that you have given it my all. I am happy to know that I can now help to preserve the health of children that I meet, where ever I go.
